in dc adventures, travel, virginia is for lovers

Happy Friday! What’s going on this weekend? Well, if you’re in DC, I have an idea for you. A few weeks ago, a group of us went out to Port City Brewing Company in Alexandria to celebrate Danielle’s birthday (and to enjoy beer in general!). It was my first time visiting the brewery and we had a great time. They have tours all day long on Saturday, so before the next one started we all got our tasting tickets. You get tickets and a tasting glass to try all of the beers they have on tap.

I really enjoyed each of them sine I am not super picky about my beers, but the Essential Pale Ale and Monumental IPA were my favorites of the day. We were at the brewery around their second anniversary, and they had a special anniversary beer: Two, a smoked porter. This was like drinking smokey bacon! Perfect for a night around the fire.

After tasting our first few beers, we went on the brewery tour. We heard all about the history of the two-year-old brewery, their beer-making process, and other random brewery facts that you hear on these things.

During the tour, we tried some baby IPA from the barrel (or whatever that’s called). Port City also has a Hopzooka. Apparently this is the only one in existence, and I forget what it’s for. Something with hops I’m guessing?

Lots of beer is made here!

Overall, it was a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon, which then led to more beer drinking at World of Beer…whoops!

For those that are interested, Port City Brewing Company is open Wednesday-Sunday with tours on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. For more info, visit Port City’s website.

Has anyone been to the other breweries in the  DC area? DC Brau? Flying Dog? What did you think of them?

Cheers!

Looks like so much fun! Sad i missed it! I did a Port City tasting at the Clarendon Crate & Barrel once — love the Monumental IPA!
